Dear Graduate Students & Graduate Student Advisors,
The Society of Addiction Psychology (SoAP) offers the Student Research Grant program to support graduate student research in addiction psychology. Four Student Research Grants of up to $1000.00 each are awarded each year.
One project will be selected by the President Elect of SoAP based, in part, on how closely the project aligns with the presidential theme. This year, the presidential theme is Toward Change: Advancing Addiction Science Through Stigma Reduction and Community Engagement.
A second award is selected for a project which focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion or health disparities related to addiction. Submissions for this award will be reviewed by the SoAP Grant Review Committee, chaired by Dr. Ty Schepis, and a top-scored application in this category will be funded.
The two remaining awards will also be selected by the SoAP Grant Review Committee. The committee will review the remaining applications and choose two of the top-scored grants.
Grants will be awarded to students whose research reflects excellence in addiction psychology and will be evaluated on the criteria outlined in the attached instructional packet.
Please note that awardees are required to present the study's findings at the annual Collaborative Perspectives on Addiction or American Psychological Association conference. Awardees’ conference registration fees will be compensated and they will receive up to $500.00 in travel funds. Travel funds are in addition to the allotted $1000.00 and do not need to be deducted from the project's budget.
Applications are due May 1st, 2026. Please see the attached document for submission details.
Best of luck!
Warmly,
Corey Monley & Katie Moskal
Your APA Division 50 Student Representatives
