Are you an early-career, mid-career, or late career addiction psychologist planning to attend CPA in person this year? The Division 50 Student Committee is seeking our Division’s excellent mentors to serve in this year’s CPA student & early career professional mentoring luncheon. This event has been a student favorite in years past, and we'd like to continue the tradition! Lunch will be provided free of charge at this event.
The plan for the luncheon is to have mentors engage in informal conversation with the student/ECP attendees. We will take active steps to match attendees to mentors in terms of topics, level of expertise requested, and the mentor's position. Mentors are not being asked to give a talk or have any kind of material prepared. Our hope is that attendees will learn about opportunities and challenges in building a career as an addiction researcher and hear about the elements of success in transitions throughout the career path.
The lunch will be held on Friday April 8, 2022 at The Benson Hotel. If you are interested in serving as a mentor, please use the following link to select your areas of expertise and indicate your lunch preferences. Due to COVID-19 precautions, we will be asking some mentors to take their students outside to a nearby park, so that individuals who request to stay inside will have plenty of distancing space. For this reason, we are asking you to indicate your preferences for eating inside or outside. We expect the weather to be beautiful this time of year in Portland, and this may be a nice opportunity to soak it in. It is important to note that completing this form does not necessarily mean that you will have to attend the lunch. Given that we are unable to predict how many mentees will sign up for the luncheon, it is possible that the full range of mentors we are attempting to recruit will not be needed. If this is the case and your services will not be needed, we will notify you prior to the conference.

We hope this will be a good opportunity for students and ECPs to ask career and research related questions, and possibly for mentors to meet individuals seeking to become students and post-docs. We plan on sharing a list of mentors who will be attending so students/ECPs can opt to sit with mentors whose research is of particular interest to them. As such, please fill out the survey by March 11.

Resources are available for those struggling with addiction and numerous effective treatments exist. Whether you are looking for help for yourself or a loved one, we encourage you to seek out help.
