Description: Working with substance use disorders can be ethically complex terrain – a biopsychosocial disorder with numerous stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and clinical philosophies to juggle as you make clinical and organizational decisions.  This clinical conference call focuses on applied ethics in the context of the treatment of addictions: examining real-world scenarios and ethical conflicts.  
Topics addressed: include drug screening, administrative discharge, decisional capacity, and harm-reduction models.

October 8, 2021 Clinical Addiction Practice and Advocacy by Nancy Piotrowski, PhD

Dr Nancy Piotrowski will discuss opportunities for psychologists to exercise their influence on policy and laws affecting addictions treatment, training, and credentials, and other psychological topics with advocacy at the county, state, and federal level.  Her experience as an advocate includes prior service as an elected member on the APA Committee of State Leaders, Co-Chair and Vice Chair of the Government Affairs Steering Committee for California Psychological Association, Federal Advocacy Coordinator for the Society of Addiction Psychology, and as the Local Advocacy Network Chair for Napa Solano Psychological Association and San Francisco Psychological Association.  Nancy is a Licensed Psychologist in California and affiliated with University of California, Berkeley and The Wright Institute.  She currently serves on the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals, as Council Representative to APA for the Society of Environmental, Population, & Conservation Psychology, and as a Trustee for the California Psychological Association PAC.  She also is an appointed alternate for her county central democratic committee and an elected delegate for her county to the California Democratic Party.  She is happy to help anyone get involved, especially students, and welcomes your call even if you cannot make it to the planned gathering.
