I am excited to introduce the New York State Harm Reduction Association (NYSHRA). It is a membership association whose mission is to promote harm reduction therapy and substance use treatment throughout New York State.
NYSHRA promotes harm reduction in New York State as a scientifically based treatment appropriate for substance use disorder, as well as a lifestyle approach to people who use substances. We fulfill this mission on behalf of clinical and other providers, and the consumers they serve, through public policy and anti-racist advocacy, public awareness, clinical education, and research dissemination.
I am proud to be a founding board member and the Center For Optimal Living is a member organization.
NYSHRA is seeking organizations and individual practitioners who share the harm reduction philosophy to join us and contribute to the evolution of the organization. We are currently sponsoring a virtual town hall meeting on Creating a Framework for Anti Racist Substance Use Treatment, information below.
We are planning a major conference and trainings in the coming year and invite you to participate. We are also seeking individuals who wish to roll up their sleeves and join our working committees. We are also seeking financial sponsors who wish to help us grow.
Please see the associated file for the letter that has membership information.
I am glad to answer questions about this exciting new development.
