Lab Manager and Post-Doctoral Associate Positions at the Lavender Lab - UMD

The Lavender Lab is moving to the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland College Park (UMD) and we are seeking a full-time Faculty Specialist (Lab Manager) and Post-Doctoral Associate to join our team. The Lavender Lab conducts NIH-funded research on the psychological, social, and cultural determinants of health for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals and Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC). Both positions will be primarily involved in the Lavender Lab’s ongoing experimental and experience sampling research activities focusing on adolescents and young adults. They will also assist with a recently funded NIH R01 study of intersectional stress and substance use among BIPOC LGBTQ adolescents.

Both positions are a one-year appointment (to start on, or about September 1st, 2022) and are subject to renewal based on performance and funding. The positions will be based at the University of Maryland, College Park, the flagship campus of University of Maryland, located only 5 miles outside of Washington DC, and 30 miles from Baltimore, MD.

FACULTY SPECIALIST (LAB MANAGER)

Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to: 

  • Coordinate day-to-day lab operations  
  • Manage budget and purchase requests   
  • Manage IRB submissions  
  • Set up and maintain study protocols 
  • Develop data collection surveys in Qualtrics and REDCap 
  • Recruit and screen research participants and schedule research visits  
  • Enroll and manage research participant activities in lab studies  
  • Assist with data management, including data entry, cleaning, processing, and data quality checks 
  • Maintain lab website  
  • Assist with presentations for scientific conferences and manuscript/grant preparation 
  • Assist with other administrative responsibilities to support the lab’s activities  

Necessary qualifications include: 1) A bachelor’s degree in psychology, public health, or other fields of study related to the lab’s research; 2) one year of prior research experience; 3) proficiency with statistical software (e.g., SPSS), Qualtrics, and Microsoft Office Suite; and 4) excellent organizational, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.  

 Applicants who have experience working in or conducting research with LGBTQ and BIPOC communities from culturally humility, intersectionality, and social justice approaches will be given strongest consideration. Prior experience conducting experimental and/or experience sampling research is highly preferred. Ideal candidates are motivated, eager to learn, able to work independently but seek consultation when needed, able to manage time and multiple tasks, and detail-oriented.

POST-DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE 

 

Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to:  

  • Management, coordination, and implementation of ongoing and new research studies  
  • Supervision and mentorship of research staff 
  • Data management and analysis of intensive longitudinal (e.g., ecological momentary assessment and daily diary studies) and experimental data 
  • Dissemination of research findings (e.g., manuscript preparation) 
  • Grant preparation and grant report writing  
  • Manage IRB submissions  
  • Review and maintain study protocols and data collection surveys  
  • Assist with other research and administrative responsibilities to support the lab’s activities  

Necessary qualifications include: 1) A doctoral degree in psychology, public health, or other fields of study related to the lab’s research; 2) record of research productivity and scholarship; 3) strong skills and demonstrated experience in conducting advanced quantitative analyses (e.g., multilevel modeling, multilevel structural equation modeling); 4) excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as attention to detail; and 5) strong academic writing skills.

Prior experience conducting experimental and/or experience sampling research methods is highly preferred. Ideal candidates are motivated, eager to learn, able to work independently but seek consultation when needed, able to manage time and multiple tasks, and detail-oriented. 

 Opportunities to apply for grant funding during the postdoctoral position are available. Clinical supervision for licensure will be available.
