Incorporating 12-Step Programs into Clinical Practice
Mark D. Schenker, Ph.D.
Friday, March 12, 2021 @ 1:00PM EST
The Society of Addiction Psychology (APA Division 50) is pleased to announce that Friday, March 12, at 1pm EST Mark D. Schenker, Ph.D. will be presenting at our bi-monthly Clinical Teleconference.
Despite increasing evidence of the efficacy and cost-savings of 12-Step Programs in addressing substance use disorders, many clinicians remain unaware of, or even cynical about, AA and its descendants. This presentation will orient participants to the basic practices and values of such programs, and discuss ways of incorporating AA into clinical practice.
Mark Schenker, Ph.D., a former Board member of SoAP, is in private practice in the Philadelphia area, and formerly hosted the SoAP Clinical Conference Calls. He is the author of “A Clinician’s Guide to Twelve-Step Recovery” (Norton, 2009) and the chapter “Addiction Treatment Settings” in the APA Handbook of Clinical Psychology (APA, 2016). He is also guitarist in the rock band “Drive-Thru Groove”, currently on Covid hiatus, but destined to recover spectacularly.
As usual, the basics: The call is free of charge and open to all (feel free to spread the word), but does not offer CE credits. No pre-registration is necessary.
