Clinical Psychologist Position at MGH-Harvard

PhD Clinical Psychologist 

Addiction Recovery Management Service 

Massachusetts General Hospital

There is an opening for a 20 hour (0.5 FTE) a week outpatient position for a PhD/PsyD level Clinical Psychologist with experience in treatment of youth with mental health and substance use.  Applicants are preferred if they have experience in working with adolescents and young adults with substance use disorders; however, training can be provided in substance use to those in need of additional skills. Solid assessment, diagnostic, and therapy skills with CBT/DBT/ACT is also preferable as well as experience working with groups. The clinic provides assessment, brief/motivational intervention, group and individual psychotherapy utilizing evidence-based practices, such as CBT and/or DBT, consultation, and treatment planning for patients with psychoactive substance abuse disorders with or without co-occurring disorders, and their families.  The program provides CRAFT training to parents of youth involved. This therapist will also consult with medical staff around management of the substance dependent patient in various clinic services. 

This position is part time (20 hours) and is located on the main campus of Massachusetts General Hospital.  This position reports to the Clinical Director.   

Requirements 

  • PhD, PsyD, or EDD in psychology 
  • 2 years of experience in assessment and evidence-based treatments of mental health conditions 
  • Licensed to practice in Massachusetts 
  • Evening hours and Fridays needed.  

Preferred 

  • Prior experience working with patients with substance use disorders 
  • Prior experience working with youth and young adults 
  • Experience working with remote delivered therapies  

Job Tasks 

  • Screening and Assessment
  • Conduct MH and substance use assessment and diagnosis, including and psychiatric treatment history, evidence of substance use, make recommendations for care. 
  • Identify high risk psychosocial patient/family factors that impact treatment and discharge planning  
  • Treatment Planning and Consultation
  • Identify optimum level of care 
  • Develop treatment plan consistent with patient need and readiness 
  • Identify family risk/preventive factors and structure treatment accordingly whenever possible/appropriate 
  • Maintain strong, positive relationships with Primary Care Physician and other medical staff to assure the highest quality of care to patients 
  • Participate in medical team meetings, rounds, and case conferences to provide education and consultation to improve patient care 
  • Work with family systems when appropriate and possible to involve family in recovery process 
  • Ensure accurate documentation, conforming with all state and federal regulations

There maybe additional hours within the department if a FT position is sought.
